Here are sensible steps you can take to protect your money:
If you are called by somebody saying they are from your bank, never be guided to type in or click a link.
Do not tell anybody your account password or bank security codes. Our staff will never ask for them.
Always check that it is really us calling you by saying "I will call you back." Drop the phone and call any of the telephone numbers in your bank statement or website or use our banking app to get in touch.
Never call a phone number that has been given to you by the caller. Always cross-check the bank telephone numbers with our website or your bank statement before calling it.

If you get an invoice with new or amended payment details - even from known sources, make sure you check and verify the details before adding the account number as a trusted payee.
Beware of money mules!
If you are approached and asked to receive money into your bank account for a commission/fee or to be a middleman send the money to other people, beware!
The money is usually stolen or obtained from financial crime or drug trafficking. Refuse. Participating in such activities will lead us to reporting your account to both the EFCC and the Nigerian Police Force.

Never let a third party use your account to receive money on their behalf.
Never let a third party accompany you to an ATM to withdraw money to hand over to the third party. If you have undertaken a geniune business transaction with a third party, always pay them by a cheque or bank transfer to a business account in the name of the business.
Always verify from your relatives when you receive texts or emails notifying you of financial hardships and requesting urgent assistance.
Carry out checks and report third party payments, that have no clear justification.
Be wary if a person or business asks you to make payments on their behalf.
Know your customers and understand their sources of funds for payments made to your account.
Beware of overpayments of invoices followed by a request for a refund.
Ensure that your payee is regulated to receive funds that you send them eg. buy shares only through a regulated stockbroker.
Choose a reputable financial institution that operates with integrity and is regulated.
Use only banking channels that align with your lifestyle and security needs. Do use SMS notifications just because all your friends use it. Consider in-App notifications.
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for high-value transactions.
Enable biometric authentication.
Memorise your security credentials rather than write them down.
Be cautious of unsolicited requests for sensitive details. Solaris Bank will never ask for your PIN or password. If in doubt, visit a branch.
Report lost or stolen cards and devices immediately and request a ‘no-debit’ status on your account while investigating the issue.
Avoid using public Wi-Fi and charging ports when accessing financial applications.
